FAQ: Pharmacy Benefit Management Change

Effective 01/01/2022, Banner – University Family Care (B – UFC) has made the decision to change our Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM). Our new PBM is Express Scripts.

A PBM aids the health plan and its members with managing medications at their pharmacy. Due to this transition, changes are minimal for our B – UFC members.  

When will this Pharmacy Benefit change occur?

This change takes place effective January 1, 2022.  

Will I get a new ID card? 

You were mailed a new ID card with a letter informing you about the new PBM. If you haven’t received your new ID card, please reach out to our Customer Care Center at (833) 318-4146, TTY 711.

What do I need to do?

We ask that you present your new ID card to your pharmacy the first time you fill a prescription in 2022. You should destroy your old ID card.

What Pharmacies are included in the plan network? 

We are expanding our retail pharmacy network to include all major chains including:

  • Walgreens;
  • CVS;
  • Walmart; and
  • Target

You can also go to local pharmacies like Fry’s, Bashas’, and Albertsons.   

Are my prescriptions available by mail/home delivery? 

We offer the Banner Family Pharmacy - Chandler for members that may want to receive their medications through home delivery. If you are interested, you may contact Banner Family Pharmacy at (844) 747-6441.

What pharmacies are available for my Specialty medications?

For members that are receiving Specialty medications, we offer the Banner Family Pharmacy.  For any medications not available at Banner Family Pharmacy, we offer Accredo Pharmacy are the second option.

For some specialty medications, the drug can only be sent to one pharmacy.  In those instances, we will allow members to fill their medication at that pharmacy.

Can I keep getting my current medication?

There are no changes to coverage of medications for our B – UFC members.  As before, there are requirements for prior authorization for some medications. That means we must approve, in advance, those medications. Those requirements have not changed.

Will my Prior Authorization (PA) for my medication transfer over between PBMs? 

If you received a PA for your recent medication in 2021, this PA will be transferred to 2022 if it is still valid.
